RPG Life Sciences is preparing for another phase of expansion, with the pharmaceutical company planning to deploy more than ₹500 crore over the next 12 months toward acquisitions and capacity building in active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) and manufacturing. The company has set a longer-term revenue ambition of ₹2,000–2,500 crore by 2030, as it looks to build scale across formulations, APIs and international markets. Managing Director Ashok Nair said the company has a committed investment pool of about ₹700 crore and has already deployed around ₹200 crore through acquisitions. The remaining capital is expected to be used for additional opportunities that can strengthen manufacturing capacity, product portfolios and the company's API platform. The company is evaluating assets that can bring differentiated chemistry, regulatory capabilities and access to export markets. The acquisition strategy follows a significant restructuring of RPG Life Sciences' API business. In July 2026, the company established RPG Active Pharma Ltd (RPGAP) as a dedicated platform for its API operations and partnered with healthcare-focused private equity investor InvAscent. The partnership envisages investment of up to ₹700 crore, with an initial investment of approximately ₹243 crore for a 40% stake in RPG Active Pharma on a diluted basis.

RPG Life Sciences subsequently expanded the API platform through acquisitions. Its subsidiary acquired Actis Generics, a Vizag-based manufacturer of APIs and complex intermediates, for approximately ₹80 crore, including working capital. The company then acquired the API and intermediates business of Raghava Life Sciences through a slump-sale transaction for up to about ₹135 crore, taking the value of the two acquisitions to roughly ₹215 crore.

The Raghava transaction gives RPG Active Pharma access to a manufacturing facility near Hyderabad spread across about nine acres, with an installed capacity of 300 kilolitres. The facility has WHO-GMP and EU-GMP approvals, along with KDMF and CEP approvals, and includes a portfolio of 29 API molecules, of which 22 are commercialised and seven are under development. The company's investor presentation estimates potential revenue of about ₹200 crore at full utilisation of the facility.

The API expansion is part of a broader effort to create a more integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing platform. RPG Life Sciences' official investor information describes its business across API, domestic formulations and international formulations. Its FY2025 annual report reported domestic formulation revenue of ₹425 crore, international formulation revenue of ₹132.3 crore, and API sales of ₹90.24 crore. The domestic portfolio included therapeutic areas such as cardiovascular care, diabetology, nephrology, rheumatology, oncology and urology.

The company's latest corporate disclosures also show that the API business has been strategically separated from the core formulations operation. RPG Life Sciences' FY26 financial results state that the Board approved the transfer of the API division to its wholly owned subsidiary RPG Active Pharma, subject to the required approvals and customary conditions.

The expansion comes as the company seeks to accelerate growth beyond its existing formulation base. RPG Life Sciences has said its domestic formulations business accounts for the majority of its business and that it wants APIs to play a substantially larger role going forward. The company's acquisition-led strategy therefore combines manufacturing expansion, backward integration, new API products and broader international market access.

With the company now having more than ₹500 crore available for further opportunities, the next phase will depend on identifying assets that fit its strategic criteria rather than simply adding manufacturing capacity. The recent transactions indicate a focus on combining existing customer relationships, manufacturing infrastructure, regulatory approvals and product portfolios to create a larger API-focused business within the RPG Life Sciences group. The company's stated ₹2,000–2,500 crore revenue ambition by 2030 therefore represents a broader growth strategy spanning APIs, domestic formulations, international formulations and inorganic expansion, rather than relying on acquisitions alone.
