Philips has entered into a strategic collaboration with Cent, an Indian preventive healthcare company, to explore new approaches to preventive diagnostics and early risk detection. The partnership brings together Philips’ medical imaging technologies and Cent’s screening-focused healthcare model, with an emphasis on identifying potential health risks before symptoms appear.

As part of the collaboration, Philips will deploy helium-free, wide-bore 70 cm 1.5T MRI systems equipped with AI-enabled SmartSpeed image acceleration at Cent’s preventive health screening centres. The technology is intended to support high-quality imaging and more efficient MRI workflows while improving the experience for individuals undergoing screening.

The initiative will go beyond simply installing imaging equipment. Philips and Cent plan to explore MRI protocols, clinical workflows and operational requirements specifically suited to preventive screening and risk assessment among asymptomatic individuals. Areas being evaluated include neurological, spine and oncology-related indications.

This approach reflects a broader shift in healthcare from a predominantly reactive model, where diagnostic investigations are generally initiated after symptoms develop, towards preventive and risk-based approaches. Advanced imaging and artificial intelligence can potentially provide clinicians with additional information for assessing health risks, although screening decisions and interpretation of findings still require appropriate clinical evaluation.

Cent's existing preventive-health model combines advanced imaging with laboratory and other diagnostic information. According to the company's platform, its screening protocol brings together full-body MRI, CT, DEXA, ECG and more than 100 blood and urine biomarkers, with AI-based analysis and physician review. These are company-described capabilities and should not be interpreted as evidence that every condition can be reliably detected through screening.

The collaboration could therefore provide an opportunity to study how advanced MRI can be incorporated into a broader preventive screening pathway. In particular, developing protocols for people without obvious symptoms presents different clinical and operational considerations from conventional diagnostic imaging performed for patients with a specific complaint.

Bharath Sesha, Managing Director, Philips Indian Subcontinent, said advanced imaging and AI-enabled solutions have the potential to support earlier identification of health risks, improve diagnostic confidence and enhance patient experiences. The company said the collaboration will help explore approaches that can strengthen preventive diagnostics and contribute to better health outcomes.

The partnership also highlights the growing role of AI-enabled imaging in healthcare. Philips' SmartSpeed technology is designed to accelerate MRI image acquisition and reconstruction, potentially supporting more efficient workflows. Within the collaboration, the technology will be evaluated in the context of preventive screening rather than only conventional diagnostic imaging.

For India, the initiative comes at a time when healthcare providers and health-tech companies are increasingly exploring models focused on early detection, personalised risk assessment and preventive care. Combining imaging, biomarkers and digital analysis could create more integrated screening pathways, while clinical validation and appropriate medical oversight remain essential to determine their effectiveness.

The Philips-Cent collaboration is expected to focus on developing and evaluating these approaches rather than representing a new diagnostic test or established clinical standard. Its significance lies in bringing imaging technology, AI-enabled workflows, and preventive-health infrastructure together to investigate how potential risks can be identified earlier and managed through appropriate clinical pathways.
