The National Institute of Homoeopathy (NIH), Kolkata, is celebrating its Golden Jubilee, completing fifty years of service in homoeopathic education, research and care. The celebrations included the inauguration of a modular operation theatre and the establishment of a centre of excellence which would support NIH’s clinical, academic and research capability. These new initiatives would not only help in enhancing patient care services but also provide opportunities for students, researchers and innovators.

The Golden Jubilee event witnessed the attendance of Shri Prataprao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, as well as Minister of State, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and Shri Sukanta Majumdar, Minister of State for Education. Other guests of honour included members of Parliament, a member of the West Bengal Assembly, senior officials of the Ministry of Ayush, faculty, doctors, students and other stakeholders.

While talking at the event, Shri Prataprao Jadhav deemed it the completion of 50 years as a milestone for the institute and considered this Golden Jubilee as a chance to note down the priorities for the future. He pointed out the importance of combining traditional systems of medicine with modern technologies, research, and innovations at AYUSH institutions, as well as the need to strengthen education and infrastructure for patient care in the industry.

The newly launched Modular Operation Theatre will further contribute to the development of the clinical structure of the organisation. The building has been developed according to modern healthcare standards and equipped with state-of-the-art machines that will support clinical services as well as contribute to the training of healthcare professionals. The Centre of Excellence is expected to provide a platform for clinical research, academic development and innovation. It is intended to facilitate research activities, institutional collaborations and opportunities for students, faculty members and healthcare professionals. The facility is part of the institute's broader efforts to enhance its research and academic capabilities as it enters the next phase of its institutional development.

During the programme, Shri Sukanta Majumdar highlighted the institute's contribution to education and healthcare over the past five decades. He said the newly added infrastructure could further strengthen NIH Kolkata as an academic and professional centre. Other public representatives also highlighted the potential of the expansion to improve clinical services and healthcare access for people in Kolkata and surrounding areas.

Dr. Pralay Sharma, Director of NIH Kolkata, said the new facilities demonstrate the institute's commitment to strengthening its infrastructure and preparing for its future growth in homoeopathic education, research and patient care.
