New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has issued an advisory asking all medical colleges and institutions across the country to promote the Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR's newly launched 'Medical Innovations Patent Mitra' initiative among faculty members, clinicians, researchers, and students.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched the "Medical Innovations Patent Mitra" initiative to strengthen India's biomedical innovation ecosystem by supporting patent protection and technology transfer of healthcare innovations emerging from institutions across the country.

In the advisory issued on July 1, 2026, the NMC said the initiative offers fully government-funded support for patent filing and technology transfer. This will help researchers and innovators protect their intellectual property and convert their research into healthcare products and technologies that can benefit the public.

The Commission said that the initiative is in line with the NMC's objective of promoting research, innovation, and excellence in medical education.

The NMC has asked all medical colleges and institutions to widely share information about the initiative among their faculty members, clinicians, researchers, and students and to encourage innovators to make use of the platform for patent filing and technology transfer.

The Commission further stated that active participation by medical colleges and institutions will help strengthen India's healthcare innovation ecosystem and speed up the translation of research into practical healthcare solutions.
