New Delhi: The National Testing Agency declared the NEET (UG) 2026 result on 16 July, which left 20 lakh medical aspirants waiting to enter further education due to the re-examination held on 21 June. A total of 5440 centres for exam conduction was there spreaded over 551 cities in India and 14 centres abroad. out of 20 lakh students, 11.21 lakh students qualified for the exam and got a chance to enter the field of medical science courses, such as MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, or allied health. In this data set of 5 students, 3 got qualified for the exam.

Women accounted for more than 58 percent of all qualified candidates and outperformed male candidates on a like-for-like basis too: 56.8 percent of women who appeared qualified, against 55.1 percent of men — a gap NTA's own data confirms rather than a one-off headline figure.

Out of the total, OBC-NCL was the biggest category with the maximum number of candidates qualifying at 5.12 Lakhs. The next category was General with 2.91 lakh qualifiers, followed by SC with 1.59 lakh, gen-EWS with 95,026, ST at 63,716, and PwBD at 3,666.

Geographically, Uttar Pradesh alone produced over 1.7 lakh qualifiers, the highest of any state, while Lakshadweep recorded just 43 — a gap that illustrates how unevenly India's largest medical entrance exam draws from its population base. Seventeen state toppers scored 700 or higher out of 720, and 26 crossed 690, while the joint All-India Rank 1 went to Aryan Gupta of Punjab and Panshul Bansal of Haryana, both scoring 715/720.

The test itself was held in 13 languages, highlighting the extensive use of multiple languages by NEET because medical candidates are used to taking the same national examination in regional scripts.
