The Union Health Ministry reviewed the progress of healthcare infrastructure, medical education, and specialised services in Madhya Pradesh during a meeting between Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. The review covered the expansion of medical education, public-private partnership (PPP) projects, and key maternal, child, and specialised healthcare indicators.

Madhya Pradesh has increased its MBBS seats from 5,600 to 6,120 in 2026, adding 520 seats within a year. The state has also expanded super-speciality education, with seats in government medical colleges increasing from 63 to 73, while private medical colleges increased their super-speciality seats from 29 to 53.

The expansion is aimed at increasing medical education capacity and specialist healthcare availability in the state. The Union Health Ministry highlighted the growth in medical and super-speciality seats during the review.

A major part of the discussion focused on Madhya Pradesh's use of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model for establishing medical colleges. Under the initiative, new medical colleges are being established in Dhar, Panna, Katni and Betul, with the institutions targeted for establishment by December 2027.

The state is also expanding its government medical college infrastructure. Construction at Chhatarpur, Damoh and Budhni has been completed, while the medical college at Ujjain is expected to be completed in 2027. The Central Government's Phase-III scheme has also proposed medical colleges in Rajgarh and Mandla.

The meeting also examined maternal and child health indicators in Madhya Pradesh. According to the figures cited by the Union Health Ministry, the state's Maternal Mortality Ratio declined by seven points to 135 per lakh live births, based on SRS 2022–24.

The proportion of pregnant women receiving four or more antenatal care (ANC) visits increased from 57.5% to 69.5%, as per NFHS-6. The neonatal mortality rate declined from 27 to 26, while the infant mortality rate decreased from 37 to 35 per 1,000 live births.

The state currently has 70 haemodialysis units across 52 districts, while 52 cancer day-care centres are providing cancer treatment services. The review also noted the introduction of advanced cancer treatment facilities, including CAR-T cell therapy, at Government Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore.

The meeting concluded with discussions on continued Centre-State cooperation for strengthening health infrastructure, expanding access to healthcare and implementing national health programmes.
