Cancer treatment often involves multiple specialties, diagnostic services and stages of care, making coordination between healthcare providers an important part of the patient journey. A new collaboration in Mumbai aims to bring clinical expertise, technology and hospital infrastructure together to support more integrated cancer care.

HCG Cancer Hospital, Colaba, and Asian Cancer Institute (ACI), Cumballa Hill, Mumbai, have announced a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening access to cancer treatment and improving coordination of care for patients. The partnership will combine the clinical capabilities, infrastructure, technology and professional expertise of both institutions.

The collaboration will focus on providing multidisciplinary cancer treatment, with the participating institutions working towards making the patient's journey through diagnosis and treatment more coordinated. According to HCG, the partnership will also include initiatives related to patient navigation, academic activities, professional training and knowledge sharing.

A key component of the collaboration will be the development of standardised clinical pathways and stronger multidisciplinary coordination. Such pathways can help organise care across different specialties and services, particularly for patients who require multiple forms of cancer treatment during the course of their care.

The partnership is intended to bring different areas of clinical expertise together rather than requiring patients to independently navigate separate aspects of cancer treatment. Dr. Manish Mattoo, Executive Director and CEO of HealthCare Global Enterprises Limited, highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary expertise, advanced technology, evidence-based protocols and coordination across specialties in modern cancer care.

The collaboration also has an academic and professional-development component, with the institutions planning knowledge-sharing and training initiatives. These activities are intended to support the exchange of clinical expertise and contribute to continuing development in cancer care.

The partnership comes as cancer care increasingly relies on coordinated input from specialists including medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and supportive-care teams.
