Doctors at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, have successfully carried out a complex spleen removal surgery on a 43-year-old woman battling medical complications.

The patient, a resident of Warasiguda, had been experiencing abdominal pain for three months and persistent bloating for about a month before being admitted. Medical investigations revealed massive splenomegaly, a condition in which the spleen becomes abnormally enlarged, along with pancytopenia, a serious reduction in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

Given the severity of the condition and the associated blood abnormalities, the surgery was considered extremely challenging

The procedure was led by senior surgeon Sunil, with anaesthesiologist Murali. During the operation, the spleen was found to be significantly larger than anticipated, measuring about 45 x 20 cm and weighing nearly 2.8 kg. Despite the complexity, the team successfully removed the enlarged organ.

Hospital officials said the patient is currently stable and recovering well, with her condition gradually improving following the surgery.
