Agartala: Dr. Shyamaprasad Mukherjee Agartala Civil Hospital was inaugurated on 12 July 2026 by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha, adding a new government healthcare facility to strengthen medical services in the state. The hospital has been established to improve access to healthcare and help reduce the patient load at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital and Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital.

The hospital is currently operating in two shifts and, within days of its inauguration, has begun receiving a steady flow of patients. According to officials, 65 patients availed treatment at the facility in a single day, indicating increasing utilisation of its services.

The facility is staffed by five specialist doctors in obstetrics and gynaecology, general medicine, dermatology, paediatrics, and ophthalmology, supported by nursing officers, laboratory technicians, an ECG technician, and a radiographer. It also offers diagnostic services, including blood tests, along with emergency care, inpatient wards, and ambulance services.

The hospital has also introduced Tripura's first digital patient registration system, aligning with ongoing efforts to modernise public healthcare delivery and improve access to government health services through digital technology. Officials said the new facility is expected to enhance healthcare accessibility for residents of Agartala and nearby areas while strengthening the state's healthcare infrastructure.
