Bengaluru: On the occasion of Doctors' Day, Dr. Sandeep Mahapatra, Director, Senior Consultant Dermatologist and Hair Transplant Surgeon at Neo Follicle Transplant Clinic, reflected on the deeper purpose of medical practice, emphasising that while hair restoration changes appearance, restoring confidence and hope is the true privilege of being a doctor.

According to Dr. Mahapatra, medicine is built not only on scientific knowledge but also on empathy, patience, and trust. As a dermatologist and hair transplant surgeon, he has witnessed how hair loss affects patients emotionally, often leading to diminished self-confidence, social anxiety, and hesitation in personal and professional life.

He noted that hair transplantation has transformed many lives but remains one of the most misunderstood medical procedures. With social media filled with unrealistic promises and misleading information, many patients approach treatment with expectations shaped by edited images and viral content rather than scientific evidence.

Dr. Mahapatra stressed that hair transplantation is not a cosmetic shortcut but a carefully planned surgical procedure requiring precision, expertise, and ethical decision-making. Every patient presents a unique pattern of hair loss, donor area, and long-term treatment needs, making personalised evaluation essential. He cautioned that no responsible doctor can promise instant or perfect results.
