Ahmedabad: Amid rising concerns over Chandipura virus infections in Gujarat, the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Gujarat State Branch, has issued an advisory urging healthcare professionals to strengthen surveillance, ensure early diagnosis, and promptly refer suspected cases for specialised care. The advisory comes as the state intensifies its response following recent confirmed infections and child fatalities linked to the virus.

IMA has advised clinicians to maintain a high index of suspicion, particularly in children presenting with high fever, altered consciousness, seizures, or symptoms suggestive of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES). The association emphasised that rapid clinical assessment, early referral to higher centres, and supportive treatment are critical to improving patient outcomes.

The advisory also highlights the importance of vector control measures, public awareness, and community participation to reduce the risk of transmission. Healthcare providers have been urged to educate families on preventive measures and report suspected cases without delay to support disease surveillance and containment efforts.

State health authorities have simultaneously stepped up surveillance, testing, and monitoring in affected districts as part of ongoing efforts to contain the spread of the virus and strengthen public health preparedness.
