The 11th Ayurveda Day 2026 will be celebrated on September 23 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, with the theme “Ayurveda for a Healthier Tomorrow” (स्वस्थ भविष्य के लिए आयुर्वेद). The Ministry of Ayush has launched a nationwide campaign ahead of the occasion, focusing on the role of Ayurveda in preventive healthcare, healthy lifestyles, research, innovation and community wellbeing.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, announced the plans during the Curtain Raiser Press Conference held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi. He said Ayurveda Day should serve not only as a celebration of India's traditional healthcare heritage but also as an opportunity to connect traditional knowledge with the changing health needs of the future.

The 2026 campaign will emphasize a broader understanding of health that goes beyond treating illness. It will highlight areas such as healthy dietary practices, daily routines, mental balance, wellness, preventive healthcare, and harmony with nature. The initiative is aligned with the broader vision of developing a healthcare approach that combines traditional knowledge with contemporary requirements.

Three key areas will guide this year's campaign. The first, “Integrative Healthcare for Better Health Outcomes,” focuses on bringing together the strengths and expertise of different systems of medicine. The second, “Evidence, Research, and Innovation in Ayurveda,” places scientific research, evidence generation, and innovation at the centre of Ayurveda's future development. The third, “Ayurveda for Community Wellbeing and Sustainable Living,” highlights the potential role of Ayurveda in supporting individual, family and community wellbeing while encouraging sustainable lifestyles.

The Minister also underlined the importance of communicating reliable and evidence-based information about Ayurveda. With Ayurveda widely used and accepted in India, the campaign will seek to address misconceptions and improve public access to accurate information. Media organisations, practitioners and institutions are being encouraged to communicate the campaign's messages to communities, including students, young people, rural populations and urban residents.

According to the Ministry, Ayurveda Day 2026 is intended to develop into a national health communication campaign and a people's movement, rather than remain limited to a government-led annual programme. The campaign's approach seeks to establish a connection between traditional knowledge, scientific evidence, innovation and public welfare.

Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the National Institute of Ayurveda (NIA), Jaipur, outlined several initiatives planned for the occasion. These include the National Dhanwantari Ayurveda Awards 2026, new programmes at NIA Jaipur, safety dossiers on medicinal plants, Standard Treatment Guidelines for skin diseases, a report on the Ayush Services Sector and Ayush Vision 2030. Exchange of MoUs and other programmes are also planned as part of the celebrations.

The nationwide initiative will involve Ayurveda practitioners, researchers, educational and healthcare institutions, government stakeholders, media organisations and citizens. The Ministry of Ayush has encouraged stakeholders to participate actively in the campaign and contribute to the broader discussion on preventive health, research, innovation and sustainable living.
